Samuel Sukumar

Dr. G. Samuel Sukumar was born on the 27th of December 1958 at Hyderabad. He obtained Master of Science from the Department of Geology, University college of Science, Osmania University in 1980. He was awarded Doctor of Philosophy in 1985 for his research in Sedimentology and associated minerals in Cuddapah Basin from an area around Cuddapah town. He joined Geological Survey of India in 1983 and superannuated as Director (Geology) in 2018. He has several hobbies like gardening, philately and birdwatching. He uses Photography as a tool to capture birds in their natural environment. Pursuing these hobbies he travelled to many birding sites in India, like Telneelapuram, Lambasingi, Visakhapatnam, Maredumilli, East Godavari district, Talakona, Tirupati, Atapaka bird sanctuaries at Kolleru, Krishna district, Uppalapadu Guntur district, the little Rann of Kutch – Gujarat, Coorg -Karnataka, Munnar, Thattekad, backwaters of Alleppey, Kerala, Leh- Ladakh, Mishmi hills Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman Islands.

Wildlife sanctuaries in Uganda, Tanzania, Sydney, Melbourne and Orbost in Australia and several bird parks in the United Kingdom.  He is actively involved in creating awareness of health issues caused by use of plastics, environmental degradation by videography through the channel Bhurakshak. Delivers lectures on Geology and use of mineral resources.
